Alice Walthall Crews, age 67, of North Chesterfield, VA and formerly of Farmville, VA, passed away on September 24, 2016. She was born in Farmville, VA to Alfred W. “Tubby” and Jill Henretta Walthall on December 18, 1948. She was a member of the Farmville United Methodist Church and loved to sing in the choir. Her hobbies included making flower arrangements and tending to her cats. She was a strong person and a two-time cancer survivor. She was employed by Southside Urology Clinic in Farmville for 15 years, where she served 7 years as office manager.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert F. Crews, and a brother-in-law Bob Hazelwood.
She is survived by her son Shane P. Crews of Midlothian, VA; granddaughter Ava Raics of New Jersey; sister Frances W. Hazelwood of North Chesterfield, VA and niece Sandra Elliott and husband Brian of Midlothian, VA.

Ms. Gladys Marie Sallie, age 61, departed this life September 20, 2016 in VCU-CMH Hospital, South Hill, Va. She was the daughter of the late Nathan E. and Hattie Green Sallie.
She leaves to mourn two children: Ritchie (Regina) Tisdale and Tawanda (Earl) Hargrove, all of South Hill; five sisters: Annie Mae (John) Robinson and Rosa Nell Taylor, all of South Hill, Louise Holmes, Newark, N. J., Christine Sallie, South Hill, and Brenda (Wilburt) Lambert, Richmond, Va.; three brothers: Willie Roy Sallie, Washington, D.C.; Jimmie Sallie, Philadelphia, Pa., and Clinton (Rosa) Sallie, South Hill. A loving and devoted companion, Roger Crawley, Kenbridge, Va. and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday at the old RZUA Headquarters, La Crosse, Va., at 2 p.m. Minister Sharon Baskerville officiating, with burial to follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until the hour of funeral.
Ms. Gladys Sallie may be viewed on Saturday at the funeral home from 1:30 until 6 p.m.

George Blount Turner, age 70, of Lawrenceville, VA passed away September 20, 2016. He is preceded in death by his father, George Franklin Turner. He is survived by his wife, Mary S. Turner; his mother, Virginia H. Turner; his daughter, Melissa “Kay” Turner Baird; his son, George “Cotton” W. Turner, Sr.; four grandchildren, G.W. Turner, Jr., Sara Anne Turner, Ryan Thomas Baird and Jackson Matthew Reynolds; three great grandchildren, Hailey Brooke Turner, Angela Faye Abronski and Kegan Michael Turner; and nephews and niece.

Mr. Edward Earl “Ed” Floyd, age 58, of Brodnax, died in his home on Sunday, September 18, 2016. He was a former truck driver for Gasburg Timber.
Ed is survived by his wife, Rebecca Cumbia “Becky” Floyd of Brodnax; numerous loving foster children; his mother, Barbara H. Floyd of Gasburg; and his two brothers: Robert Lee Floyd and Terry Wayne Floyd both of Gasburg. He was predeceased by his father Louis Edward Floyd and brother, Michael Wayne Floyd.

Betty Bishop Kidd, 96, of South Hill, VA, passed away to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington NC.
Betty was born in Lunenburg County, VA on April 1, 1920, to the late Robert Gilbert and Mary Jane Loftis Bishop. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband Wallace Tilman Kidd, on December 24, 2000, her son Robert B. Kidd of Grove, OK on June 16, 2012, along with a sister and three brothers. Betty was a long time member of South Hill United Methodist Church, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great- great grandmother. Betty loved the Lord, as well as her family. She will be remembered for her courage and independence to live her life the way she wanted, as long as it ways pleasing to the Lord.
Betty is survived by three sons; Eugene Kidd and wife Fay of Wilmington, NC, Milton Kidd and wife Joan of Willow Springs, NC, Wayne Kidd and wife Debbie of Wilmington, NC, daughter-in-law Sue Kidd of Grove, OK, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Crowder Hite-Crews Funeral Home, South Hill, VA. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Crowder-Hite Crews Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at Crestview Memorial Park.

Mr. Joseph Charles Robinson, age 92, died September 10, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Wells Robinson, and is survived by his son, David W. Robinson of Henrico, VA and daughter, Frances R. Foxwell of FL. Also surviving are three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Robinson was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in both WWII and Korea. He was a retired railroad clerk and a member of First Baptist Church of South Hill.

Michele Dawn Boyce, 48, of Orlando, FL passed away Monday, September 5, 2016, at Winter Park Memorial Hospital, in Winter Park, FL following a courageous, second battle against Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC).
Michele was born January 3, 1968, in Gallia County, Ohio, daughter of Phyllis Ann King, and the late James Keith King. She was a 1986 Wahama High School graduate and earned a LPN in Nursing from Hocking College. In 2011, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ohio University. She worked at various hospitals throughout the Northern and Southeastern United States. In addition to touching many lives through nursing, Michele was an avid animal lover and saved the lives of many fur babies through her rescue efforts.
Michele was preceded in death by her father, James Keith King, and her maternal grandmother, Lovella (Lew) Lehew, both of New Haven, WV.
She is survived by her loving husband, Christopher G. Boyce, of Orlando, FL; daughters, Brittany Johnson of Orlando, FL, Tabitha (Dave) Hardwick of New Haven, WV, Natosha King of Pomeroy, OH and Krista Boyce of Brodnax, VA; son, Grant Boyce of Brodnax, VA; brothers, Keith (Lisa) King of Virginia Beach, VA, Timothy King of New Haven, WV and Mark (Debbie) King of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren and five nephews and nieces.
A private ceremony for immediate family will be held in Coco Beach, FL. Extended family and friends will join together in a Celebration of Life at the Hartford Community Center in Hartford, WV on October 15th at 12:00 PM.

Mrs. Marie Overton Crafton, age 76, of South Hill died Wednesday September 7, 2016. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Crafton is survived by her husband, Gerald Crafton of South Hill; her 3 daughters: Sabrina Dulaney and her husband David of Brodnax; Donna Parrish and her husband Ottis of Warfield and Cindy Barnette and her husband Jerry of South Hill; her step-daughter Teri Staples and her husband Robert of Birmingham, Alabama; her brother, Wayne Overton and his wife Linda of White Plains; her six grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as “TT” or Granny: Christopher Barnette, Jerry Ray Barnette, Matthew Barnette, Ryan Dulaney, Robert D’Amata, Jr. and Heather Barnette and “TT” or Granny’s six great-grandchildren: Owen Barnette, Charlotte Barnette, Caroline Barnette, Jack Barnette, Jonathan Ermel and Jacob Ermel. Mrs. Crafton is also survived by her beloved dog Joey. Mrs. Crafton was predeceased by her son, Gerald Crafton, Jr., her two brothers: Lynn Overton and Ed Overton; two sisters: Betty Ann Baird and Marylee Daniels and her pet dog Zoey.
