19th ANNUAL MECKLENBURG COUNTY BUSINESS EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP ADULT SPELLING BEE WITH SOME NEW TWISTS!

The Mecklenburg County Business Education Partnership will be hosting its 19th Annual Spelling Bee where adults “pay to play” on Wednesday, April 11th at the South Hill Elementary School. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the Spelling begins at 6:00 p.m. The money raised at this fun-filled fundraiser will go towards scholarships for high school seniors attending college and for school projects. This Spelling Bee has been a long running competition where individuals can test their spelling skills while having a great time and help out deserving students that may need help attending college. This is the only fundraiser that we hold for these scholarships so we sincerely appreciate all of the participation we get. Our goal is to give out $6,000 in scholarships this year (three $1,000 scholarships at Park View High School and three $1,000 scholarships at Bluestone High School). $2,000 of this scholarship money raised at this event will go towards The Mac & Julia McInturf Memorial Scholarships. So, we need all the help we can get!
We are looking for businesses, organizations, or individuals to compete. Registration is $50 per team and you may have up to 4 people per team. If you cannot attend, there is also the option to sponsor a team of other talented students, teachers, or adults while still promoting your business which is extremely helpful as well. There will be 3 rounds of words for each team to spell ranging from easy to intermediate to difficult. Team members can confer. If you misspell a word, don’t worry, your team has the option to buy the word to stay in the game; hence, “pay to play”. In the final “sudden death” round, buying words is not allowed, so words must be spelled correctly for teams to continue in the competition. You will be guaranteed to have a good time and great laughs. Refreshments will be provided. Feel free to wear a team costume for even more fun and you are welcome to bring your own cheerleaders. In addition to the Spelling Bee trophy, this year we will still award a trophy for the best team costume. We will be including the fun and exciting twists to the event again this year! For example, we are inviting your team to send us a word (along with the pronunciation and using it in a sentence) which we may use during the first 3 rounds. (You must send us the word by March 23rd.) ALSO, we will be playing “Let’s Make A Deal” once again so fill you purses and pockets with any items that you think we may request. Fun, Fun! In addition, raffle tickets will be sold for $1 for some very nice prizes for participants and for spectators. WOW!
