Two of the more prominent real estate companies in Southern Virginia and northern North Carolina have joined forced and merged into one.
On Wednesday, Exit Town and Lake Realty, which is owned by Beth Smith and Beth Cook and has offices in South Hill and Bracey, completed its acquisition of Century 21 Clary and Associates, which was owned by Jean Clary Bagley and headquartered in South Hill.
“Beth and Beth,” who both live on Lake Gaston and joined the real estate profession in the late 1980s, said the two companies over the years have enjoyed a warm working relationship as friendly competitors. They’ve been working on the merger for about a year, and the timing was right.
“Our philosophies are the same. Our business practices are similar,” Cook said. “It just worked out, and we’re joining forces.”
Exit Town and Lake Realty will move its South Hill office to the former Century 21 Clary and Associates office located at 231 E. Atlantic Street. The Exit Town and Lake Realty Bracey Office will remain at 903 Bracey Drive.
Bagley will continue with Exit Town and Lake Realty in the listing and selling aspect of her work while decreasing her involvement in the management of the company.
“I am not retiring,” Bagley said. “I’m going to be part of the team. It’s a great blending of two strong real estate companies in Southern Virginia into one.”
The real estate professionals from both companies have been retained and will continue to serve clients in the South Hill and Bracey offices. Kim Smiley, professional property manager for more than six years with Century 21 Clary and Associates, will continue in that position overseeing the Property Management Department of the blended company.
The entire Exit Town and Lake Realty team came together on Wednesday at Brian’s Steak House in South Hill for a reception and seminar on company policies and strategies. Parked outside were three new Smart Cars bearing the Exit Town and Lake Realty logos and colors.
