Chase City hires new town manager

Chase City has a new town manager. In a unanimous decision, members of the Chase City Town Council voted on Monday night that Angela A. Lawrence will step into the post shortly after Thanksgiving.
In a release provided by the Chase City Town Council on Monday night, “Angela Lawrence is an accomplished leader and team member with experience to execute level management in both public and nonprofit agencies and organizations. She is experienced in program, project, policy and organizational planning, development, delivery and management, fund development, financial administration and strategic planning and implementation.”
Lawrence is no stranger to organizational leadership, having served as executive director of Gilda’s Club Kansas City, an organization devoted to helping victims of cancer. She has also served as executive director for the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation in Richmond. She was also executive director of the National Parkinson Foundation Heartland Chapter in Leawood, Ks.
Lawrence is not new to local government. Between 2000 and 2006, she served on the town council as vice mayor and mayor of Ashland, Va.
Lawrence has a masters of business administration from the University of Texas as well as a bachelor of science degree from Kansas State University.
Speaking on Tuesday morning, Chase City Mayor and Acting Town Manager Eddie Bratton said that the committee charged with finding and selecting a new town manager had put a good deal of time and effort into its search and had been universally impressed with Lawrence.
During the final interview process before the entire council, Lawrence, he said, had been a great fit for the community and should be able to promote the town of Chase City and work to draw new business and residents.
The post of town manager opened in June after the sudden death of longtime Town Manager Rickey Reese.
Reese, who had worked for the town in various capacities before assuming the duties of the position was recognized as the longest serving town manager in the Commonwealth.
