Clarksville praises success of Lake Fest

During Clarksville’s Town Council meeting Tuesday night, Town Manager Jeff Jones took the time to commemorate all those who assisted in making this year’s 41st Annual Virginia Lake Festival a success.
The three-day festival kicked off with its annual hot air balloon event that according to Jones drew in a huge crowd.
“I think that was the largest crowd I have ever seen at a balloon tethering,” Jones said. “It was tremendous.”
Jones went on to explain that he believed the attendance at the balloon event was in excess of 1,500 people with all available parking lots being filled throughout the evening.
The opening ceremonies, Jones said also had a large crowd in attendance with what he believed to be around 2,000 people and the food and entertainment was excellent.
The final day of the festival Jones said seemed to be a real crowd pleaser with all the vendors, games, rides, the car show and many more attractions available for everyone to enjoy.
Another factor Jones said played into the success of the event was the great weather. On the days of the festival, there was low humidity and temperatures that were below average for this time of year.
Jones said he noticed at Saturday’s event this year, with the weather being cooler than most years, the crowd stayed throughout the day as opposed to most years when it begins to thin out in the afternoon.
To wrap up the festivities the fireworks show was held Saturday night and according to Jones “was one of the better ones we’ve ever had.”
Overall Jones said the festival was incredible and could not have been possible without Sheila Cuykendall and her staff at the Clarksville Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Chief Ricky Wilkinson and the Clarksville Police Department, Richard Elliot and the entire Town of Clarksville crew along with all the other town staff members that participated in making this year a success.
“It’s all a team effort,” Jones said.
Jones also wanted to share his gratitude toward the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, Mecklenburg County Emergency Services, Virginia State Police, Mecklenburg County Emergency 911 Communication Center, Virginia Department of Transportation, Clarksville Volunteer Fire Department, Mecklenburg County Rescue and EMS, local newspapers and radio stations along with all the sponsors and volunteers that assisted in preparing for and executing a safe and successful event.
