IDA awards contract for shell building
The Mecklenburg County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) has awarded a contract to Virtexco Corporation for construction of a new shell building in the county.
Meeting on Friday, the group selected the Norfolk-based construction firm to put up the new shell building, which will be located in the Roanoke River Regional Business Park in LaCrosse.
The initial plan for the project is a 50,000 square foot shell building sitting on a 10.8-acre site. If needed, the building can be expanded to 100,000 square feet.
The contract for the project is $2,583,011. No start date has been announced for the project, but construction is expected to start shortly after the start of 2017.
At the present time, there is no prospective customer for the building, and the project is being undertaken to try to draw potential businesses to the area.
Also on Friday, the IDA awarded a contract to Green Acres of Clarksville to re-landscape the front of the Roanoke River Park.
The official slate of officers serving the IDA was also announced on Friday with Tammy Manning service as chairperson, Joe Just as vice chair, Wayne Carter as secretary and Angie Kellett as Treasurer.
Following a brief closed session, the meeting adjourned. No action was taken following the closed session.
