Local person is victim of scam
A local person was the victim of a scam recently and Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents to be aware of such scams.
Mecklenburg deputies were called to a residence on Hob Good Rd. in the Buffalo Junction area on Feb. 16 after speaking with the victim of the scam.
The victim advised that they had received a call that morning from a person who said that the victim’s granddaughter had been involved in an accident. The caller then advised the victim to go to the CVS store, purchase Best Buy cards and load money on them.
The victim did what the caller said.
Contact was later made with the granddaughter and this incident was determined to be a scam.
The sheriff’s office would like to remind the public to be aware of such scams.
“Anytime someone receives a call from someone stating anything similar to this, or that a family member has been arrested, and you need to purchase a card and put money on it, contact the Sheriff’s Office and let us check into this before purchasing any cards or sending any money.,” advises the sheriff’s office. “Let us determine if it is a scam or not.”
