Man charged with excessive speed, distribution of weed
A Brooklyn, NY man was arrested in Mecklenburg on Saturday, for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, following a traffic stop on Interstate 85.
Mecklenburg County Deputy Don Blanton was working radar on the interstate on Saturday, when he clocked a vehicle running 94 miles per hour- almost 25 miles over the posted limit.
Blanton stopped the vehicle near the seven-mile marker in the southbound lanes and upon making contact with the driver, detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle was conducted, which turned up several bags of a green, leafy substance.
The driver of the vehicle, Elson David Primus, 26, was arrested and searched. Recovered from his person were several more bags containing green leafy substance.
Primus was then transported to Meherrin River Regional Jail, where a felony warrant for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute was obtained and served.
