Man found sleeping in car at intersection arrested for DUI

A Bracey man has been arrested for Driving Under the Influence after he was discovered asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle, which was sitting in the roadway at the intersection of Hwy 903 and Blackridge Road in the Bracey area over the weekend.
Authorities, as well as rescue personnel were dispatched to the area about 10:30 p.m. on Friday night after someone reported the bizarre discovery.
Mecklenburg County Deputy Corporal Davis Cumbia responded alongside members of Lake Gaston First Responders to find the vehicle sitting in the roadway, in park, with the lights on and the engine running. Additionally, all of the windows were up and the doors locked.
Responders made “numerous attempts” to wake the motorist, however to no avail.
Finally, authorities made forced entry into the vehicle, fearing that the driver had experienced some type of medical episode.
Following making entry into the vehicle, the driver was woken up and identified as Jerry Tanner, age 49, of Bracey.
Following investigation, Tanner was charge with DUI.
