Many holiday events on tap

If Thursday’s turkey dinner and the Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday shopping deals haven’t gotten you in the holiday spirit yet, this upcoming weekend might be just what you need.
The weekend is brimming with a variety of local holiday events sure to fill your Christmas cup with cheer.
In fact, one need not wait for the weekend. South Hill will host its popular annual Tell Santa at the Chamber Depot event on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the South Hill Chamber of Commerce, located at 201 S. Mecklenburg Avenue, featuring visits and free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, train rides on the Fun-Time Express, tours of the holiday decorated model railroad and doll museums, holiday treats, gifts and more between 4 and 7 p.m.
If you miss Santa on Wednesday, don’t worry, he’ll be back this weekend. Santa will be making appearances in five local Christmas parades between Friday and Sunday.
Clarksville and Lawrenceville will host their annual Christmas parades on Friday night, Bracey will host its parade on Saturday, and South Hill and Chase City will host their parades on Sunday.
The town of Clarksville’s parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while Lawrenceville’s parade will begin at 7:30 p.m. Lawrenceville will host a Grand Illumination event an hour prior to the parade beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the town office.
Bracey will host its parade on Saturday evening in conjunction with its Grand Illumination. The festivities will kick off at 5 p.m. in the vicinity of Long & Foster Realty, located at 3840 Highway 903, and feature raffles, door prizes, children’s activities and more.
Sunday will welcome South Hill’s large annual Christmas parade, which will begin at 2 p.m., as well as Chase City’s, which will begin at 6 p.m.
If you are looking for a more personal experience with Santa, you can catch him at one of several local organizations that are hosting events this weekend, including two local fire departments.
Boydton Volunteer Fire Department, located at 928 Madison Street, will host a “Snacks with Santa” event on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to noon, while Lake Gaston Volunteer Fire Department will host visits and photos with Santa at the station, located at 7609 Highway 903, Bracey, from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday.
Santa will also make an appearance at Elm Acres Community Center in Lawrenceville on Saturday. The “Breakfast with Santa” event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and last until 10 a.m.
New Hope Baptist Church, 255 Union Mill Road, South Hill will host its popular annual “Breakfast with Santa” on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., while the Impact Church of God Little Lambs Program will host its fifth annual Santa Breakfast on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon at 205 W. Danville Street, South Hill.
The annual South Hill Christmas Farmers Market will take place Saturday at Market Square from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Living Water Ministries is hosting a Christmas Vendor Show at 116 N. Mecklenburg Avenue, South Hill, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A Christmas Bazaar will take place at the Estes Community Center in Chase City on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Town of Boydton will hold its Grand Illumination on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
