Martin sharing memories and recipes

Former literary agent and Bracey bookstore owner Sandra Martin is releasing a new book of memoirs and recipes called “Snapshots,” and she’s pretty excited about sharing.

Martin said that as a literary agent, her job took her everywhere and that in her lifetime along the way she gathered many recipes and memories.

She said that when her daughter, Lisa, who is a publisher, approached her about writing a cookbook, she was a bit hesitant.

“I’m the last person to write a cookbook,” she said. “For me a recipe is a suggestion, a structure, a beginning.”

But after some time to think, Martin said she gave her daughter, Lisa, an answer.

“I told her that I would (write the book) if I could include some stories that I’d been telling for years and other stories I’ve never told anyone until writing them for this book,” Martin said.

Martin’s book includes memories of crashing a plane into the Grand Canyon, a past life memory while in Paris and having meals with celebrities like John Clease.

She noted it was a compromise that made the both of them happy.

According to Martin, the book features vignettes from various times in her life from early childhood to traveling around the world. She said she tells of her spiritual and psychic experiences, along with several funny stories of the people she has met.

Martin said one of her favorite chapters, titled Little Green Men and Chicken Salad, tells of her contemplation of the existence of fairy people, leprechauns and elves as she worked in her garden.

She also noted one of her favorite recipes is for Zucchini Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins.

Martin will be at a party and book signing at Rosemont Vineyard and Winery Sept. 21 from 3 to 5 p.m. where her new book, “Snapshots,” will be available.

Martin’s bookstore is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. inside Backyard Birds & Coffee in Bracey.
