Pair arrested for drugs, outstanding warrant
A traffic stop on Monday lead to drug charges for one subject, as well as the arrest of a wanted woman.
Mecklenburg County Deputy Corporal Byrt Carnes, while on patrol in the area of Mayfield Drive along Highway 58, observed a vehicle approaching a stop sign at a high rate of speed.
Carnes initiated a traffic stop and upon identifying the driver of the vehicle, learned she was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Roanoke City. Kia Denise Miles, 25, of Garysburg, NC was placed under arrest.
Carnes also made contact with the passenger of the vehicle, at which time he detected the odor of marijuana.
A search of the vehicle was conducted and resulted in the recovery of a large sum of cash, a green, leafy substance, as well as a white powdery substance.
The substances were field-tested and at the conclusion of those tests, the passenger, Kendrick Maurice Taylor, 32, also of Garysburg, NC, was arrested and charged with simple possession of marijuana and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine.
Both subjects were transported to Meherrin River Regional Jail.
Miles was released on a $5,000 secured bond.
Taylor was remanded under no bond.
