Public Awareness Day returns for third year

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office will once again host its annual Public Awareness Day.

This year, the event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 911 Madison Street in Boydton in the parking lot of the Social Services building.

The free event will feature kid’s games, inflatable bounce houses, a dunk tank, train rides, face painting, prizes and raffles, specialty displays and demonstrations, food including a hot dog lunch, popcorn and ice cream, an archery shoot, blood pressure screenings, a petting zoo, music and much more.

Participating agencies include local rescue, fire and police departments, Virginia State Police, Alcohol Beverage Control, Mecklenburg Emergency Management, the Army Corps of Engineers, Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Dive team and tactical team, Domestic Violence Victim Witness Protection Program, local Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops, Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative, the Virginia Department of Forestry and more.

Special guests will include McGruff the Crime Dog, the Paw Patrol and Sponge Bob.

The event and its activities are completely free, and the public is invited to come out and learn while having fun.
