Relay for Life has full day and evening of events planned

The culminating event for the 2017 Relay for Life of Mecklenburg County will be held this Saturday, June 10, at Centennial Park in South Hill from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.
The public is invited to attend as individuals, team members, survivors or guests for a full day and evening of events, with the goal being to raise funds and awareness toward the battle to end cancer.
The event kicks off at 10 a.m. with opening ceremonies and introductions. The Martin family from South Hill will be singing the National Anthem, followed by a thank you message to sponsors and team introductions.
The honorary chairperson, Marilyn L. Brosius-Jones, will be introduced and tell her story at 1 p.m. and that will be followed by the introduction of cancer survivors in attendance, the Survivor’s Lap and the Caregiver’s Lap.
There will be games, special laps and various forms of entertainment taking place throughout the day, including the Whiskey Revival Band taking the stage at 7 p.m.
Child ambassador Emberlyn Wray is scheduled to take the stage at 3 p.m. before a Child’s Lap at 3:15 p.m.
There will be a special, heartwarming presentation called “The Empty Chair” at 8:45 p.m., and the Luminary Ceremony is scheduled for 9 p.m. 
This year’s Team Leadership chairpersons are Lisa Maitland and Ashley Boyd. Vendors include Floyd Williams, Light it Up Concessions, LulaRoe, Thirty-One, Thrive, Damsel, Tupperware, Younique and more.
Relay for Life of Mecklenburg County held its 2017 Survivor’s Reception last Saturday at the VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital Education Center with more than 75 people in attendance.
Attendees enjoyed food, fellowship and the inspirational stories of 2017 Honorary Chairperson Marilyn L. Brosius-Jones and this year’s child ambassador, Emberlyn Wray.
