School boards sends budget to supervisors
The Mecklenburg County School Board met for the third time this month on Wednesday last week to vote on the proposed 2019 budget and pass it along to the Board of Supervisors.
During the school board’s regular March meeting Superintendent Paul Nichols presented the 2019 budget that focuses on the new school complex, the addition of needed qualified personnel as well as improved school experiences and programs.
After presenting the budget to the board and the public the school board held a public hearing to allow the public a chance to voice their opinion on budget matters last Monday, but no public comments were heard.
At Wednesday’s meeting, before asking the board to make a motion, Nichols asked for any last questions the board members may have.
Since the majority of the board members inquiries were addressed at the public hearing no further questions were discussed.
Nichols then requested the board members present to accept the budget as presented and allow the Board of Supervisors to review it.
Board member Gavin Honeycutt made the motion that the board accepts the 2019 budget as presented followed by board member Dora Garner who seconded the motion.
Garner and Honeycutt along with the remaining three board members unanimously voted in favor of accepting the proposed budget and sending it to the Board of Supervisors for approval.
