Seats up for election in May

Four seats for Mayor and 15 Town Council seats will be up for grabs around the county in the upcoming May election. With less than a month before the filing deadline, only two incumbent Mayors have announced their plan to seek reelection. Five current members of Councils have stepped up to say they will stand for reelection.
In the Town of Chase City, incumbent Mayor Eddie Bratton has qualified to seek another term in office. Mayor Bratton confirmed last week that he will stand for reelection.
Incumbent Council member Brenda Hatcher has become the first member of the Chase City Town Council to file for reelection. Incumbent Council member James Bohannon has reportedly stated that he will also seek another term on Council.
Long time member Winthy Hatcher has stated publicly that he will be stepping down after his current term.
In Clarksville, the term of Mayor Kevin Allgood is up for election in May, along with seats on Town Council currently occupied by Chris Clarke, Carolyn Hite and Glenn Jurczyk. At press time, none of the candidates had announced their intentions.
In Boydton, the Mayor’s seat, currently held by Thomas C. Coleman, III, and the Council seats held by incumbents William Coleman, Johnny Kirkland and Ronny Worley will come up in the May election. At press time, none of the candidates had filed or qualified for reelection.
Four Council seats come up for reelection in May and as of press time, three incumbents had qualified for reelection. In Ward II, William M. Moody, Leroy Sasser and Ben Taylor are seeking additional terms on Council. In Ward 1, Lillie Feggins-Boone has not made known her intentions.
Incumbent Mayor Tom Tanner qualified on Monday morning and will seek a term serving La Crosse as Mayor after filling the seat in place of Jay Spence, who resigned the position last year before serving his full term. Incumbent Council member Bryant Thomas has not yet qualified nor announced his intentions for the upcoming election and there is also an open seat with no announced candidates.
The deadline for filing to run in the May 1 elections is March 6 at 7:00 p.m.
