Skipwith man killed in crash

A car crash that occurred on Wilbourne Road just after noon on Thursday resulted in one fatality.
Emergency personnel were called to respond to the crash scene, located along Wilbourne near its intersection with Middle School Road between Chase City and Clarksville in the Skipwith area, about 12:06 p.m. after a 911 caller reported the accident. The caller advised that the occupant of the crashed vehicle was entrapped and unresponsive.
Upon arrival, responders discovered the single vehicle involved, a 1993 Ford Taurus, had struck a tree head-on and the lone occupant of the vehicle was unresponsive.
Ronald Gooch, 78, of Skipwith, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Agencies responding to this incident included Clarksville and Boydton volunteer fire departments, Mecklenburg Rescue Squad, Boydton Life Station, Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police.
No charges were filed as a result of the crash.
