Spaghetti dinner to benefit aspiring runner

Take a night off from cooking dinner April 28 to help an aspiring local runner fund a trip to Australia this summer.
Bluestone High School sophomore Frank Csorba, the school’s first-ever state qualifier in cross-country, has been selected to represent the U.S. and Virginia in a Down Under Sports distance running event in Australia this summer.
Csorba, 16, who has overcome asthma to be able to run long distances competitively, is planning to join 3,000 youths from 15 countries at the event beginning June 24, and his church, Boydton United Methodist, is holding a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Friday, April 28, to help pay for his airfare and lodging.
“I feel this is an opportunity I can’t miss out on,” Csorba said. “I will be competing against other countries on one of the highest levels of competition. I am so honored to represent Bluestone High School and Mecklenburg County at this amazing event.”
Added Bluestone Athletic Director Dan Powell, “The opportunity before Frank is a direct relation to his dedication and desire to excel to the highest of his ability. The efforts from Frank as well as his coaching staff are positive representations of the Bluestone Athletic Department. It is an extraordinary opportunity for Frank and his pursuit of continuing his running career. The Bluestone athletic family wishes him well in this endeavor!”
Csorba put in times around 16:30 during cross-country in the fall and has won every 3,200-meter run for Bluestone’s track and field team this spring.
His parents, Al and Jessica Csorba, said the process of overcoming asthma to reach this level gradual and full of dedication and practice.
“He’s worked hard to build his lungs up,” Al said. “We’ve never had to ask him to practice or work out.”
Added Jessica, “His drive is something people dream of.”
Frank Csorba needs to raise the $5,000 for traveling expenses.
The spaghetti dinner will run from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $8 per meal, and plates consist of spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and drinks.
